Birds of Placitas

 

LPA past board member Hart Schwarz, a wildlife expert who conducts bird surveys for the U.S.Forest Service, leads birding hikes at the Placitas Open Space — one of the most popular hikes we sponsor every year. Watch our events calendar for the next hike.

You can see the survey of 75 birds Hart observed March 1997 to February 1998 below. The list notes 23 confirmed or highly probably breeding species.

The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land… In short, a land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land-community to plain member and citizen of it. It implies respect for his fellow-members, and also respect for the community as such.
