About Las Placitas Association

Our Mission:

The goal of Las Placitas Association is to protect open space, restore riparian watersheds, and promote recreational, educational and rural activities.  We work to encourage appreciation of the unique environmental and cultural richness of this area, and the importance of protecting it.

Activities:

LPA works with residents, land owners, government agencies, developers and others to ensure Placitas retains its quality of life, clean water and air, dark skies, plant and animal diversity, scenic views, sites of archaeological and historical significance. One way we do this is by providing opportunities to learn about and enjoy our surroundings. LPA organizes a number of activities in which you can participate, like educational hikes led by experts which feature birding, native plants, local history and archaeology, LPA offers Placitas residents an opportunity to learn about the interesting and unique features of the beautiful high desert. Another way we do this is by engaging with local, state and national government representatives on issues important to you.

Membership and Financial Support:

Las Placitas Association needs your personal encouragement, your participation in our activities, and your financial support.

We invite you to become a part of this worthwhile effort by becoming a member or making a donation. We offer several levels of membership; one may be perfect for you and your family.

Our impact and our ability to continue to preserve the Placitas lifestyle are limited without the involvement of people who embrace our fragile legacy. We value the contributions of both our members and our volunteers. We would love to include you in both categories!

The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land… In short, a land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land-community to plain member and citizen of it. It implies respect for his fellow-members, and also respect for the community as such.
