Native Plant Hikes

January 11, 2017

Las Placitas Association hosted two native plant hikes led by Michael Crofoot in 2016 and will be following up with a lecture in early 2017. For those of you who do not know Michael Crofoot, he is a local plant expert who moved here twenty years ago. He has worked in the botany and soil microbiology fields for many years and loves our enchanting northern Sandia foothills. He has compiled a 160-plant species Herbarium that LPA plans to publish in some form in 2017.

The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land… In short, a land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land-community to plain member and citizen of it. It implies respect for his fellow-members, and also respect for the community as such.
