Buffalo Tract Bill Update

January 14, 2017

LPA received this update from Senator Heinrich’s office when we inquired about the fate of the bill he and Representative Lujan-Gresham introduced in 2016 to removing all subsurface mineral rights from the Buffalo Tract BLM parcel to help us stop additional gravel mining in the area.

Hi All,

I wanted you to know the Senator is looking to reintroduce the Buffalo Tract bill soon; possibly the week of the 23rd. The language and maps will be the same at last time. I have attached them here for your reference. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks!

Abby Lewis

The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land… In short, a land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land-community to plain member and citizen of it. It implies respect for his fellow-members, and also respect for the community as such.
