History of Placitas Exhibit & Storytelling:
In September LPA will bring a month-long historic photo exhibit at the new Placitas Community Library. Then on Saturday, Sept. 11, enjoy an afternoon of music, refreshments, and story telling at the library. Ora Corea, descendant of the founders Placitas, will introduce you to some of her ancestors and share their stories. The original settlement was part of the San Jose de las Huertas Land Grant, an area in the lower Las Huertas Canyon. The original settlers of 1765 consisted of 21 families who built a walled village and farmed in the area. ("Huertas" is translated as gardens, vineyards, orchards or planted fields of crops.) The celebration will be FREE and reservations are not needed. Donations to LPA are always welcome.

Placitas Open Space Trail Construction and Maintenance :
We'll be joined by a crew of trail specialists from the City of Albuquerque, and will continue work constructing new trails and closing old roads in the Las Huertas Creek area. This work is part of LPA's continuing efforts to assist the City of Albuquerque in implementing the Management Plan for the Placitas Open Space. Las Placitas and City of Albuquerque will provide tools, drinks, snacks for this event. Please wear sturdy work clothes, and bring work gloves, a sun hat, extra water, and some rain gear. The Open Space is beautiful this time of year, and your participation helps to assure the viability of the Placitas Open Space. Meet at the Placitas Post Office and car pool to the site.
